60,000 people disappeared in Mexico since 2006

Official figures report that 61,637 people have disappeared in Mexico since 2006. Most disappearances have been attributed to crime groups and drug cartels; however, security forces have also been accused of contributing to this figure. The estimate is considerably higher than previous estimates of around 40,000 disappearances. In 2019 around 5,000 people disappeared in Mexico and 31,000 people were murdered.
